Melchizedek Blessing
Abraham
Genesis 14:18-19 Melchizedek blessed Abraham:
Melchizedek king of Salem (later called
Jerusalem)… priest of God Most High…
blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram
by God Most High…”
Psalm 110:4 King David spoke of the coming Liberator of
Israel:
The Lord has sworn and will not change
his mind: “You are a priest forever, in
the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 5:6, 5:10 and 6:20 The Divine itself said of
Jesus Christ:
“You are
a priest forever, in the order of
Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 7:1-3 Melchizedek had no parents, no human birth
and was immortal:
This
Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest
of God Most High. He met Abraham
returning from the defeat of the kings
and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a
tenth of everything. First, the name
Melchizedek means “king of
righteousness”; then also, “king of
Salem” means “king of peace.” Without
father or mother, without genealogy,
without beginning of days or end of
life, resembling the Son of God, he
remains a priest forever.
Melchizedek, the first priest mentioned in the Bible
predates both the Hebrew and Christian
priesthoods. He
is described as being without parents,
without birth, without death, resembling
the Son of God, immortal. He gave a
Divine blessing to Abraham.
Many Christians
understand Melchizedek to be a
“manifestation” of Christ, without human
birth, which occurred several thousand
years before his physical “incarnation”
as Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ Avatar.
The Order of Melchizedek
is an ancient lineage of priesthood with
the gift of Blessing (Sanskrit: Deeksha)
the ability to transfer a very tangible
and permanent Divine “Blessing” to the
recipient.
Abraham, the patriarch of both the
Hebrew and Arab people, and as such, the
progenitor of Judaism, Christianity and
Islam, received Melchizedek’s Blessing
and gave to him a tenth of all his
treasures. This meant in Abraham’s
culture that he recognized Melchizedek
as his superior. King David received a
Divine revelation that the coming
Messiah of Israel would be a priest in
the Order of Melchizedek. The Christian
Scriptures declare that Christ is a
priest of the Order of Melchizedek.
Melchizedek appears in
the Roman Canon at Mass, and today’s
Catholic priests are ordained to “the
Order of Melchizedek.” After
transmitting the Blessing given by the
laying on of hands (Deeksha) in the
ordination of a priest, the Roman
Catholic Church boldly proclaims to the
new priest, “Thou art a priest forever,
in the Order of Melchizedek”!
In Sacramental Christian
traditions (Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic,
Anglican, etc.) the ability to give a
Blessing (Deeksha) is the result of
“Apostolic Succession”, a transmission
through the laying on of hands which the
receiver can trace back in an unbroken
line to the original Apostles and
through them to Christ and through Him
to the Order of Melchizedek.
The Blessing flowing
through this lineage can take many forms
besides ordination. There are Blessings
for healing, the transmission of the
Holy Spirit, illumination,
empowerment for Divine service, etc.
Whenever I give Christ’s Blessing, I am
aware as a bishop in the Apostolic
Succession that the Blessing flowing
through me originates from the Order of
Melchizedek. Over the years I have
witnessed countless miracles and
transformed lives as a result of the
Blessing flowing through that lineage.
There is much more to say
about the ancient priests and monks of
the desert who predate and are the
source of all the Middle Eastern
religions, but if you are interested,
this is probably enough to whet your
appetite to dig deeper.
